An elastically deformable pocket (8) is placed inside the tank (1) and is permanently connected to the ambient air. The relative pressure of this medium is higher than or equal to the filling pressure or usage pressure inside the tank (1) for initial conditions which correspond to its resting volume. At least one detector (12) senses the pressure variations of the liquid (L) contained inside the tank. This detector (12) sends an electric signal to a remote display. The device can be used for tanks whose access is difficult and whose spatial position varies, e.g. to detect the quantity of liquid in the tank of a hydraulic circuit. The varying signals from the sensor are stored and used to establish a curve.
