The block has ducts which form an air layer (3) between the main body of the block (1) and an outer block skin (4). The connections (5) between the skin and the body are sized and shaped for minimum area, compatible with rigidity and to give turbulence to upward air movement. The number of ducts is uneven, to give duct continuity with normal building course offsetting. The connections widen upwards, do not extend on one part of the block height, and resist shear forces due to weight and differential expansion.
