The test bench has two inertial masses. The first called the housing, is supported by three columns on a mounting and is integral with a vertical excitation axis subjected to symmetric alternating torsion constraints. To this is fixed the upper end of the test speciman, the lower end being fixed to an inertial disc forming the second inertial mass. The excitation axis is acted on by an electrodynamic excitor mounted on the housing. The measuring system has an accelerometer for measuring the angular acceleration of the test specimen at the housing and a device to measure the angular displacement of the inertial disc which is integral with the lower end of the specimen. The over-tension coefficient curve and the mechanical energy communicated to the specimen are thus determined. The thermal energy dissipated by the specimen during fatigue testing is measured by an infrared timer and its associated signal processing equipment.
