Three heat sinks are formed of the same profile in aluminium. They are screwed (4) on to insulating support bars (6). Each heat sink has a transverse slot cut into it, extending down through a considerable part of its height - between 50 and 80%. This leaves a connecting part which is thick enough to limit the transmission of heat, whilst allowing the passage of current and maintaining mechanical strength. Two diodes, or other components, may thus be attached to each heat sink, saving between 20 and 40% in the material required for mfr. The separate components may work at their own optimum temp.., by choosing the appropriate division of the heat sink between them.
