Supply system increases life of incandescent light bulb - by halving mains volts using voltage controller

The supply system reduces the mains voltage to 46-48 percent of the nominal voltage of the incandescent light bulb. A voltage controller is connected into the supply circuit and provided with a pointer (3) that moves over two scales (C1,C2). One scale shows power consumed in watts and the other shows the optimum range of reduced voltage for a given bulb wattage. Typically the lifetime of 60 W bulb may be increased 10-fold by such a voltage reduction whilst light intensity only reduces from 690 to 400 lumens (i.e. 40 percent). Normal light bulbs (i.e. 50 Hz, 220-240V) may be used.
