Vehicle brake lamp mechanism independent of braking action - uses pushbutton mounted in vehicle and connected in parallel with standard braking switch to illuminate lamps without slowing vehicle

The device permits the braking signalling lamps of a motor vehicle to be lit without slowing the vehicle, to indicate to a following driver that he is too close. A push button is fitted inside the driver's compartment of the motor vehicle, and is operated by the driver, either manually or by foot, to illuminate the brake lamps, or alternatively extra lamps specially fitted to the rear of the vehicle for this purpose. Electrically, the push button is connected in parallel with the switch normally fitted in the braking system and activated by the hydraulic pressure in the brake line. When the pushbutton is activated it provides an alternative current path to the brake lamps.
