Mobile sugar beet plant sampling machine - has length adjustable digging-up device and retractable for immobilising machine during sampling

The machine is comprised of a moving frame with a device for digging up the plants mounted on it. The frame moves on four wheels which support a platform and is hydraulically driven. Supports for immobilising the machine at rest on the soil while the sampling operation takes place are provided in the form of retractable props fixed, one in each corner, of a rectangular chassis. The device for digging up the plants has two plough shares mounted on a carriage which can slide along a guiding groove in the chassis. This enables the device to be displaced a predetermined length (corresponding to the desired length of sample) w.r.t. the supports, at the time of the sampling operation, by a driving mechanism which is connected respectively to the supports and the digging up device. The machine is used for sampling sugar beet plants prior to harvesting.
