A non-rigid backpack for carrying a baby constructed from fabric or sheet matls. includes inserts of flexible expanded polyurethane in the seat and/or back of the body of the carrier to provide adequate anatomical support for the child, pref. with its legs splayed outwards rather than downwards. Pref. such inserts also support the head of the child to prevent it from lolling backwards or sideways. The shoulder straps supporting the carrier are anchored such that they do not cross behind the childs body and compress it against the thorax of the carrier. Pref. the shoulder straps have sliding pads comprising loose sleeVes of flexible polyurethane foam. No specific physical properties quoted for the expanded components.
