Semi-linear electromagnetic machine using eccentric motion - has eccentrically mounted disc which follows sequentially energised solenoids, and uses crank to convert eccentric motion to circular motion
The semi-linear electromagnetic machine is in a rotating machine configuration, having a stator with the field formed by solenoids distributed round the stator, and a rotor formed from a disc armature which is mobile in rotation. The armature has pole pieces which face the field solenoids, and is eccentrically mounted relative to the field so that a point on the rotor transverses a curvilinear path. The rotor is mounted on a crank mechanism, which drives an output shaft. The rotation of the armature about its own axis is prevented by three friction wheels or gear wheels, two running on the stator and the third fixed to the rotor. The machine operates by electrical energisation of successive solenoids, which produces a rotating magnetic field. A digital logic circuit controls the sequential supply of the solenoids.
