Bacterial culture jar with medium support blade for urine tests etc. - has pivoted blade also to be able to check flat surface contamination

Microbiological culture jar comes complete with a culture medium support blade fixed to the inside of the jar cover so that the blade extends longitudinally into the jar. The blade is attached to the cover via a mounting which allows the blade to be pivoted into a plane such that the blade surface can be easily applied to a flat surface to be tested for bacteria. The pivoting motion pref. takes place about a horizontal bedge of the blade. Pref. the blade mounting is a rectangular frame attached at the top to the jar cover. A rectangular blade is attached along a horizontal bedge to the frame which is made of flexible plastic locally weakened to allow the blade to pivot about the attachment. The frame is sufficiently elastic to return the blade to its original plane when pivoting force is removed. The jar can be wed in the same way as previous culture jars of this type, e.g. for dipping the blade first into a physiological fluid, partic. urine, and then into a jar of culture medium such as agar for incubation. The number of colonies indicate the deg. of contamination. The same equipment can now be used to detect germs on flat surfaces and canteen kitchens. This eliminates the need for special Petri dishes for this application.
