The concrete contains expanded bodies, esp. beads, where the smallest beads (a) consist of expanded polystyrene, but the largest beads (b) consist of an expanded mineral, esp. glass-or clay- beads. Beads (a) pref. have a dia. below 2 mm and a density of 10-20 kg/cu.m. The use of beads (b) in addn. to beads (a) ensures that the concrete has good mouldability and good mechanical strength, in both cases superior to concrete which only contains expanded polystyrene beads (a).
