P A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF RESORCINOL AND RESORCINOLS SUBSTITUTED BY A FIRST REACTION STEP OF CYCLISATION IN THE VAPOR PHASE OF A DELTA-CETOCARBOXYLIC ACID ESTER ON A COAL CATALYST BED IS DESCRIBED. - INTERMEDIATE CYCLIC DIONE. THE DELTA-CETOESTER IS MOVED THROUGH THE CATALYST BED BY A GAS CARRIER CHARACTERIZED IN THAT IT IS LIQUID AT 25C AND HAS A HIGHLY BOILING POINT SO THAT THE GAS CARRIER IS EASILY CONDENSABLE IN AMBIENT CONDITIONS.
