The instrument accurately positions a contact lens on the cornea of the eye and axially in line with the pupil. It incorporates an aiming point (2) for the eye through the lens and at the opposite end to the collar supporting the latter, so that as the lens is brought near and placed against the cornea, the optical axes of eye and lens coincide. The aiming point can be formed by crossed lines in a cylinder at the opposite end to the lens support.
