The system according to the invention comprises a first room (1) which accommodates a reactor plant (3) and an active-type sprinkler means (10). As pressure rises in the first room (1) due to a release of steam from the lost coolant, most of the air contained in this first room (1) is driven out through holes (12) provided in walls (13) of the first room (1) in immediate proximity to a floor (18) of the first room (1), (14) wherefrom it proceeds to a second room (2) through channels (16) and a basin-type condenser (11) accommodated in the second room (2). The length of the channels (16) is selected so as to form a water seal in these channels (16) to prevent the back-flow of air from the second room (2) to the first room (1) and thus produce rarefaction in the first room (1).
