Pressurized oil supply system for centrifugal pump bearings

A central pressurized oil supply system for an axial bearing 4 of a centrifugal pump includes a gear pump 2 which is driven by the centrifugal pump shaft 1. The delivery side of the gear pump 2 is connected via a delivery line with the bearing 4 and an accumulator 5 which is disposed in or on the bearing unit 4 to be lubricated is connected by way of a supply conduit with the delivery line from the output side of the gear pump and a solenoid valve 7 incorporated in this supply conduit is functionally linked with a motor 6 driving the centrifugal pump so that when motor 6 is started, valve 7 is simultaneously opened and oil supplied under pressure to the bearing 4 from the accumulator 5 until the pump has run up to speed when the gear pump 2 is able to supply the bearing 4 and recharge the accumulator with oil under pressure. The system avoids inadequate lubrication of the axial bearing at start-up without the expense associated with a separately driven oil supply system. IMAGE
