PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and lubricity by dispersing ceramic whiskers in an Al alloy as a binder for carbon powder under prescribed conditions so as to increase the bonding strength of the Al alloy. CONSTITUTION:The titled sliding material is obtd. by bonding carbon powder with 35-50vol% binder contg. ceramic whiskers dispersed in an Al alloy. The volume ratio between said carbon powder and ceramic whiskers is (95-60):(5- 40). The sliding material is used as the apex seal of a rotary piston engine or the like to improve the wear resistance and lubricity.
