Anthraquinone dyestuffs of the formula IMAGE (I) in which R1 represents alkyl, aralkyl, -CO-X-alkyl, -CO- X-aralkyl, -CO-X-aryl, -O-alkyl, -O-aralkyl, -O- aryl, -CN, -NO2, -CF3, halogen or a heterocyclic radical and R2 represents H or R1, X representing O, S, NH or a direct bond and Y1, Y2, Y3 and Y4 denoting hydrogen, -NH2, -OH, halogen, -NO2 or an arylmercapto group and at least one of the substituents Y1-Y4 representing an arylmercapto group, it being also possible for the alkyl, aryl, aralkyl and heterocyclic radicals mentioned for R1 and Y1-Y4 to be substituted, the preparation and use thereof, and dichroic material containing these anthraquinone dyestuffs.
