PURPOSE:To prevent traveling under an incomplete release condition after applying the emergency brake by disposing a change-over valve and an expanded air reservoir between a brake pipe and an additional air reservoir of an air brake equipment of a car having high emergency brake pressure. CONSTITUTION:The pressure of the brake pipe BP is increased in order to release the emergency brake from a condition shown in the figure in which the emergency brake is worked and the pressure of the BP is decreased to atmospheric pressure. When the pressure of the BP reaches fixed pressure at the release initial stage, a diaphragm 26 of the change-over valve 19 rises together with a valve spindle 25 against the resistance force of a spring 26a, etc., said valve spindle 25 opens a feeding and exhaust valve 24, and a duct 21 and the expanded air reservoir 20 are communicated. Accordingly, compressed air in a brake cylinder BC, the additional air reservoir SR and an auxiliary air reservoir AR flows into the expanded air reservoir 20 and diffuses, and these three pressure drops. When cars having different BC pressure are coupled, the car having higher BC pressure is first pressure-reduced up to lower BC pressure at the emergency brake release initial stage, and the brakes of each car are released simultaneously.
