PURPOSE:To estimate the number of residual faults in a program by employing a trapping and a retrapping method when the program is generated newly. CONSTITUTION:Some part of a program to be tested is executed in the 1st test. A fault (bug) detected at this time is corrected by a source module and an instruction SVC is inserted at the corrected part. When this is executed, whether the SVC is executed nearly or not is recorded in the table of a program managing part. Further, some part of the program to be tested is executed in the 2nd test as well and a detected bug is corrected similarly with that detected in the 1st test; and the instruction SVC is inserted and whether the SVC is executed newly or not is recorded. Thus, SVC (m2) which is executed nearly and SVC (m1) which is executed before are written in the table of the program managing part. Eventually, the residual bugs X are estimated from X=(m2/m1)M-M-m2. In this case, the number of bugs detected by the 1st test is denoted as M.
