PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode wire that is inexpensive and good in electro- discharge machining property, by covering a core material of a Cu/Zn/Sn alloy with a Zn/Zr alloy that is extruded, and cold working it. CONSTITUTION:As a core material 1 of an electrode for electro-discharge machining is used a Cu/Zn/Sn alloy containing 10-40wt% Zn and/or 1-10wt% Sn. A Zn/Zr alloy containing 0.02-0.5wt% Zr is extruded around the core material so that it is covered with the Zn/Zr alloy. An electric current is passed through the core material 1 via electric current passing rolls 14, 15 to be heated, and the core material is integrated with an outer layer 2 in an extruding chamber 10 that is extruded and raised by a driving roll 4 and is forced out from an extruder die 12. Thereafter it is drawn without using heat to have a specified diameter. It is preferred that the reduction of area by the drawing is 90% or more and the thickness of the outer layer is 2-20% of the whole diameter.
