HIGH-TENSION HOT-ROLLED STEEL PLATE SUITABLE FOR USE IN MANUFACTURE OF WHEEL RIM

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-tension hot-rolled steel plate suitable for use in the manufacture of a wheel rim by flash butt welding by preparing a steel contg. specified percentages of C, Si, Mn, S, Ti, Nb and V and having a specified carbon equiv. in accordance with the tensile strength. CONSTITUTION:A hot rolled steel plate consisting of 0.03-0.15% C, =0.5% Si, 0.5-2.5% Mn, =0.005% S, 0.01-0.10% at least one of Ti, Nb and V, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is manufactured. The carbon equiv. Ceq. (%) of the steel plate represented by the equation is =0.35% when the tensile strength is =60kgf/mm.2, and the carbon equiv. is =0.25% when the tensile strength is =50kgf/mm.2. The reject rate of wheel rims is reduced to =about 1% by forming the rims from the steel plate, and high strength wheel rims can be manufactured industrially.
