A cylinder head (10) for a direct-injection diesel engine for motor vehicles has, for each cylinder, an air inlet (14) controlled by an inlet valve, and first and second inlet ducts (28, 30) disposed transversely on opposite sides of the inlet (14) and opening into the latter substantially tangentially in positions such as to cause the air admitted to the inlet (14) to exhibit rotary motions with same directions of rotation.
