TREATMENT OF SLUDGE USING PETROLEUM COKE POWDER

PURPOSE:To decrease the amt. of the ash to be generated, by using petroleum coke powder in place of coal powder as an filter aid for hardly filterable sludge. CONSTITUTION:Petroleum coke powder is mixed with sludge and the mixture is filtered. The dehydrated cake obtd. by the filtration is burned as it is or after it is molded to a suitable shape. The heat or gas generated by the combustion is utilized for power generation or the like. If the petroleum coke powder is used as a filter aid for hardly filterable sludge in place of carbon powder, the amt. of the ash to be generated is reduced firstly. Secondly, the treatment is relatively safe although some care is required as the volatile component is small. Thirdly, the colorific value during combustion is larger by about 10-20%, there is the advantage that the satisfactory treatment is accomplished with a small amt. of the powder to be added.
