Appts. comprises a retort stand carrying an electric heater below a flask contg. material to be distilled. The upper part of the pillar on the stand consists of a toothed rack. A slide contg. a pinion which meshes with the rack can be driven vertically along the rack; the pinion is rotated by a handle and has a friction brake. The slide has two flexible arms used to hold an inverted U-tube (a) forming an integral part of a reflux column and a condenser. The column is fixed t one end of tube (a), and the top end of the condenser is fixed to the other end of tube (a). The bottom end of the reflux column has a joint mating with the flask. The stand pillar also has a sliding clamp holding another flask receiving the distillate. The overall result is easy assembly or dismantling of the appts.
