Active filter has open-cell plastic foam carrier - contg. active particles and held in permeable envelope e.g. in open-cell foam material e.g. polyester
Filter comprises a structure consisting of relatively large open cells contg. the active material, e.g. activated carbon, and an envelope around this structure which encloses the active particles and presents a min. flow resistance. The carrier structure may consist of reticulated foam, e.g. polyester foam, and the material may be granular whilst the envelope may consist of open-cell foam plastic. Used as active filter for filtration or treatment of liq. or gas. Filter maximises the effective active surface area and large open cells of the structure permit movement of the particles contd. in it whilst preventing bridging and channel formation. It has high fluid permeability and low flow resistance thus minimising energy consumption and, when handling a gas, noise generation. The large free space between the particles maximises fluid contact time. Arrangement permits using small-size particles without adhesive bonding thus maximising the effective active surface area. Filter can be used in any position, provided a high degree of sound attenuation, and high chemical resistance. (Fl).
