Gate opening and closing mechanism - uses electric motor controlled by remote pushbutton to drive shaft running underground between gate pillars

The gates are operated by rotating the pivoting pillars. The bottom ends of the pillars are connected via gearing to a horizontal shaft which runs underground between the pillars. The centre of the shaft is rotated via a worm gear by a mains driven motor. The forward and reverse drive coils of the motor are connected via end-stop switches to the contacts of a one-pole, two-way relay. - When the relay is de-energised, the gates will be held closed. When energised via a transformer and remote push-button switch, the gates open until a mechanical actuating bolt operates the end stop switch to break the circuit. By installing the transformer supply and push-button switch inside the house, the gates can be protected against unauthorised use.
