Cross-linkable polyolefins are prepd. by (a) exposing a polyolefin to ionising radiation, and (b) mixing the irradiated compsn. with a hydrolysable silane, in presence of a catalyst for silanol crosslinking, to graft the silane. Crosslinking the graft prod. by hydrolysis is also claimed. - (a) The irradiation dose is 0.3-10 Mrads. The irradiated polymer may be heated, pref. to 100 deg. C, before stage (b). (b) The irradiated polyolefin may be mixed with the silane and the catalyst, in presence of a 2nd polyolefin. The 2 polyolefins may be the same, or the 2nd may be a mixt. of polyolefins. The silane is esp. a vinylsilane of formula R1-Si(OR2)3. R1=unsatd. monovalent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy gp., opt. aminated; R2=(m)ethyl or (m)ethoxy.(0/0)
