Neutralisation and solidification of industrial waste - by mixing in acidic medium with silicate(s), neutralising the silicic acid formed and solidifying with e.g. portland cement

Neutralisation and solidification of waste is effected by:- (a) mixing the waste in acidic medium with silicate-contg. materials to form silicic acid in the reactive medium; (b) neutralising the mixt. up to a pH of 9 to ensure and accelerate polymerisation of silica-gel, so that the stabilised prods. are encapsulated, and (c) ensuring solidification of the obtd. mixt. by adding a solidification agent such as Portland cement, neutralised plaster, cement-sulphur mixts. or bitumen emulsions.
