The animal trap has a plate at the end of a spring loaded arm, operated by the foot of the animal and has a noose tightened around the foot, tethered to a post. The cable between the noose and the post incorporates a shock absorber so that the animal does not injure itself when trapped by the noose. The shock absorber includes a helical spring between a ring around the post and a connector to which the cable is connected. Passing through the coil is a hairpin shaped rod forming the connection with the connector and fitting around the ring at its other end.
