1,2,4-Triazole derivatives of the formula IMAGE where R1 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, or unsubstituted or substituted aryl, heteroaryl or arylalkyl, R2 is hydrogen or, independently of R1, has one of the meanings given for R1, R3 and R4 independently of one another are each hydrogen, halogen, nitro or lower alkyl and Z is hydroxyl or a -O(-)M(+) radical, where M(+) is one equivalent of a metal cation or is an unsubstituted or substituted ammonium ion, their preparation, and fungicides containing these compounds.
