A process is claimed for catalytic oxidn. of propylene and/or isobutene to produce mixts. of acrolein and acrylic acid and/or methacrolein and methacrylic acid and for catalytic dehydrogenation of 1-butene to produce butadiene. The process is effected in the gas phase with O2 at 200-450 deg.C using a catalyst of formula (Mo)a(Sb)b(Bi)c(Fe)d (Ni)e(Sn)f(X)g(Y)h(O)i (where X is K, Rb and/or Cs; Y is Pd, Co, U, Ge, W and/or Ti; a=12; b=0.2-20; c=0.2-12; d=0.2-12; e=0.2-12; f=0-20; g=0.01-4; h=0-6; i is determined by the valencies of the other atoms). The process gives higher yields than the processes of JA 47-32049, US 3445521 and US 3679603, giving an 89.7-92.0% yield of acrolein + acrylic acid or a 75.8-81.8% yield of methacrolein + methacrylic acid.
