The fire hydrant (1) unit includes a main (4), main valve (2) and connected discharge (5) and associated drain valve (3). The discharge valve has two branch valves (6) for coupling fire hoses. Except the branch valve, the entire unit is installed underground. The main (2) has a butterfly valve (12) with resilient seal (13). A hollow bearing spindle (14) in the closed position of the main valve is connected at the top via a drain (15) to an aperture (17). The spindle has a threaded part (18) onto which the housing (19) of the drain valve is screwed. The housing has two plastics sections which retain a seal ring.
