The adsorbent which, for the removal of dissolved or colloidally dispersed organic substances, is added to the mixture of substances, which is in the form of an aqueous suspension used for production, or to the water released during production before it is returned into the production circulation, is very finely ground calcium hydrosilicate (foam mortar) whose abrasion value has been reduced by using quartz powder in its production by appropriate treatment conditions during the hydrothermal hardening of the calcium hydrosilicate or by removal of relatively coarse quartz fractions after grinding to or below a predetermined abrasion value.
