Arrangement protecting against the consequences of the breaking of an insulator (4) in double straining strings and double suspension strings in high-voltage overhead lines, wherein a trapezoidal spacer (6) is disposed between the two strings (2, 3) composed of insulators (4) and the conductor lines (7, 8), characterised in that the trapezoidal spacer (6) consists essentially of two substantially symmetrical spacer portions (15, 16; 29, 30) disposed one on each side of the dividing plane (23) extending centrally between the two suspension strings, that the spacer portions (15, 16; 29, 30) are joined by a swivel joint arrangement (10; 60), and that the swivel joint arrangement (10; 60) has associated with it a swivel and displacement detent means (24, 74) permitting the swivelling of the spacer portions (15, 16; 29, 30) only in the direction (arrow 35 in Figure 1) pointing away from the insulators (for example 3).
