The process comprises reducing e.g. petroleum coke to below the 60 micron fraction, for application in vertical inverted-flame kilns where high temperatures are required without contamination by the combustion residues or ash. The fuel extracted from the stock tank is carried by compressed air at 1 kg/cm2 to the top of the kiln, where refractory steel oscillating screens give rapid controlled distribution. - The ignition of the coke is achieved at 380 deg.C in 0.4 seconds; the resulting gas raises the kiln temperature to 1400 deg.C.
