The catalysts are made by deposition of nickel from a basic salt of the metal onto sepiolite of natural or synthetic type, or activated by thermal treatment or treatment with usual acids. Pptn. is carried out witha carbonate, pref. ammonium carbonate, at 5-100 deg.C.
