1-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4- benzodioxin-2S-yl)-5 -(2,3-dihydro-1,4- benzodioxin-2R-yl)-3-azapentane -1R,5S-diol of formula (I) and its acid-addn. salts are new. - (I) mesylate is specifically claimed. Prepn. of (I) includes (1) reaction of (II) with (III), or their respective (RS) antipodes to give (I); (2) hydrolysis or hydrogenolysis of a corresp. NR cpd. (R is alpha-aralkyl, Ph2CH, Ph3C or acyl) to give (I), i.e. contg. a NH gp. - (I) is an antihypertensive and bradycardic agent. Dose is 0.01-50 mg/kg daily. (I) comprises reaction of the corresp. substd. ethylene oxide with 1-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxine- 2-yl) -2-aminoethanol.
