Laminated wall covering comprises a ply of paper material and a ply of plastics, pref. foamed polystyrene of thickness 50-5000 microns or oriented polypropylene of thickness 10-250 microns, which have been subjected to embossing, pref. while moist. Both materials are flexible but the paper has a wet expansion property whereas the plastic has a low water liquid permeability and is dimensionally stable in the presence of water thus restraining expansion of the wet wall covering and preventing it from stretching. Pref. the resistance to stretching is such that the cross-direction expansion is less than 0.4% more pref. less than 0.25%, although the paper alone would expand 1-3%. Pref. the plastic ply is ruptured during embossing so that fissures are created which improved porosity for drying and the water vapour permeability of the material is 3-600 gram per aq.m. per 24 hrs. at 38 deg.C and 90% relative humidity. The paper ply of the wall covering may be predecorated or coated with water-based decorative material after applying dry to a wet-pasted wall. Anaglypta (RTM) type wall covering is produced which is hung with the plastics ply facing the wall. The wall covering is easily manageable when wet and resists stretching and distortion. Further, it is dry strippable even when coated with paints.
