RCA 73,145AABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREIn a tuning system for generating a tuning voltagefor tuning a television receiver, channel identificationapparatus includes a memory for storing binary signals repre-senting boundary voltages having magnitudes corresponding tomagnitudes of the tuning voltage between tuning voltageranges for respective adjacent channels within a band.Because the tuning voltage characteristics associated withconventional television receivers include separated portionscorresponding to respective frequency bands in which thetelevision channels are located, boundary voltages corre-sponding to the boundaries of the tuning voltage ranges ofthe highest and lowest frequency channels in each band arealso stored. As the memory locations are addressed, theboundary voltages are compared to the tuning voltages.Control apparatus causes the memory location associatedwith the next boundary voltage to be addressed and causeschannel number apparatus to generate binary signals repre-senting the next channel number when the magnitude of apredetermined one of the boundary voltage associated withan addressed one of the memory locations and the tuningvoltage exceeds the magnitude of the other one. Displayapparatus displays the channel number represented by thebinary signals generated by the channel number means. Becausethe boundary voltages are utilized, the channel identificationapparatus, as disclosed, is particularly well suited foruse in a signal seeking system.
