-15-lABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREStarch derived from dry milled corn is hydrolyzedto provide a sterile aqueous fermentable sugar solution whichis especially adapted for fermentative conversion to ethanolwith minimum thermal expenditure. Following an initial mildhydrolysis to thin, or liquefy, the starch, substantially allof the water insoluble protein and oil components, and aportion of the water soluble components, e.g., sugars, lipids,proteins and vitamins, are separately recovered from thepartial starch hydrolysate with the water solubles beingrecycled to the system. Thereafter, the partial starchhydrolysate is subjected to further hydrolysis to provide anaqueous solution of fermentable sugar.
