PRESSURE-OPERATED PORTABLE SIPHON APPARATUS FOR REMOVING CONCENTRATIONS OF LIQUID FROM A GAS PIPELINE

Abstract of the DisclosureAn apparatus for removing concentrations of liquid froma natural gas pipeline comprising a tap valve mounted on thepipeline at the upper portion thereof so as to be incommunication with the interior of the pipeline. A siphonapparatus is removably mounted on the tap valve and includesa siphon pipe which is vertically movably mounted withrespect to the tap valve. The siphon pipe is verticallymovable from an upper position wherein the lower end of thesiphon pipe is positioned above the tap valve to a lowerposition wherein the siphon pipe extends through the tapvalve so that the lower end of the siphon pipe is positionedat the bottom interior of the pipeline. A discharge pipeextends from the siphon pipe and is in communication with aliquid holding tank. A siphon valve is imposed in thedischarged pipe to permit the selective removal of the liquidfrom the pipeline. A portion of the siphon pipe is enclosedby an operating cylinder barrel. A piston is positioned onthe siphon tube and sealably engages the interior of theoperating cylinder barrel. The upper and lower ends of theoperating cylinder barrel are in communication with a sourceof pressure so that the siphon pipe may be raised or loweredby means of the pressure. The source of pressure may beeither an auxiliary pressure source such as nitrogen, C02 orcompressed air. The source of pressure for raising andlowering the siphon pipe may also comprise a hydraulic pumpassembly including a safety bypass. The upper and lower endsof the operating cylinder barrel are also in communicationwith the atmosphere through valves to permit the venting ofthe operating cylinder barrel as desired.
