ABSTRACTThis invention relates to cation complexes thatcomprise a cation guest and a polydentate polymeric host.The host contains 2,5-diyl, 2,6-diyl, or combinations of2,5- and 2,6-diyl units to provide specified arrays ofhetero atoms.Complexes of the invention employ theabove-mentioned host thereby overcoming the need toutilize different host materials for different cationguests. The complexes of the invention are stable.Complexes of the invention are useful inrendering cation-containing salts soluble in organicsolvents; enhancing the reactivity of cation-containingsalts in nucleophilic substitution reactions; modifyingsolid surfaces to render them more organophilic; andforming stable suspension and dispersions of particulatesolids in organic solvents.
