IMPROVED ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT MINEROADWAY SUPPORT STILTABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn adjustable height mine roadway support stiltintended to be used in conjunction with an I section rolledsteel joist support leg, including a sheet of steel which has beenbent several times along its complete length to form an open-endedtube of square or rectangular section, the internal dimensionsof which are complementary to the external dimensions of the Isection rolled steel joist support leg which is to be insertedtherein, the two opposing edges of the formed steel sheet,which are vertical in use, do not meet but are a short distanceapart; to the outer face of these opposing edges, are attachedlengths of tube or channel sections in such a manner that theyare opposite to one another across the gap between the opposingvertical edges such that bolts inserted through pairs ofopposing tubes can be tensioned by means of bolts which will drawthe two opposing vertical edges together thereby engaging andgripping the support leg and allowing it to be located at anydesired height above the floor level, the tension providedby the inserted bolts and corresponding nuts determines theyield load required to control the support leg.
