UNIT DOSAGE SYSTEM FOR TREE TRUNK IMPLANTATION TO CONTROL INSECT PESTS AFFLICTING TREES

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThis invention is directed to a unit dosage system fortree trunk implantation to control insect pests afflicting treesin which a plurality of vertically spaced apart holes (about10-15 cm) preferably 10 holes, are drilled into the trunk andthe holes are filled with about .1 to 2.0 gram unit dosageweights (as 100% active ingredient) of N-Acyl phosphoroami-dothioates in a sap soluble capsule such as disclosed in JensonU.S. Patent 3,706,161. In the preferred embodiments the activecompounds are O-methyl or ethyl S-methyl or ethyl N-acetyl-phosphoroamidothioate which technically pure (over 80%) andwhose method of preparation is shown in Magee U.S. Patent3,716,600. A feature of the system is the provision of 10prepackaged tree medication capsules loaded with the activecompound in a double or triple package within a package, eachpackage being hermetically sealed to permit storage and ship-ment without giving off hazardous vapors. The inner package isa heat sealed metal foil lined package hermetically enclosing10 capsules of the Jenson structure. The outer packagecontaining instructions can be read before opening the innerpackage containing the capsules. Thus the user prepared byreading the instructions can quickly and efficiently make thenecessary spaced vertical drillings, insert the capsule loadedwith the highly effective agent, seal the opening with treedressing and provide protection against citrus blackfly,Jeffrey pine needleminer, Western spruce budworm, Zimmermanpine moth and the like. The protection is effective for twoto three months in heavily infested forest areas or orchards.
