Themethod involves the operator identifying to the systemthe task to be accomplished and the name and thelocation of the source file in the system, displayingto the operator on the screen of the display devicethe header portion of the file, which defines thefields or column names, and converting sequences ofoperator keystrokes representing conventional textediting operations on selected fields of the displayedheader to instructions for use by the system inprocessing records of the file.
