8CN2730COMPOSITION OF POLYPHENYLENE ETHER RESINSAND EPDM-POLYSTYRENES MODIFIED WITHSILICONE OILABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURENovel compositions are provided which includea polyphenylene ether resin and EPDM-rubber polystyrenemodified or polymerized with silicone oil which is freefrom unsaturated hydrocarbon groups. Included withinthe disclosure are methods of preparing and molding suchcompositions and the molded products obtained therefrom.The compositions provide molded products with substanti-ally better room temperature properties, such as Izodimpact and Gardner impact strengths, and surface appear-ance (gloss), than blends of polyphenylene ether withEPDM-polystyrene with no modifier or modified with analiphatic mineral oil. Both Izod and Gardner impactstrengths at low temperatures are also improved. Alsoincluded within the scope of the invention are reinforc-ed and flame-retardant compositions of said polyphen-lene ether resin and said EPDM-polystyrene polymerizedwith silicone oil.
