MORTARLESS CONCRETE BLOCK SYSTEMHAVING REINFORCING BOND BEAM COURSESAbstract of the DisclosureIn a mortarless interlocking concrete blocksystem, general purpose intersection blocks 40 haveparallel grooves 47 formed on their bottom surfaces 46,but each has mating ridges 45 on the upper surface 44of its inner end 41 only. The top surface 44 of itscorner end portion 51 is flat, to permit an overlyingcourse to fit thereon either at right angles or in linearalignment. The corner end portion 51 has, in each of itstwo opposite side faces 54, 56 and in its outer end face52, parallel vertical grooves 53, 55, 57 matable withtongues 17 of the system's stretcher blocks 10, to pro-vide interengagement at both left and right corners andT-shaped and crossing-wall intersections. For bond beamcourses, a bond beam intersection block 90 with similarlygrooved 112, 114, 116 corner end 110 faces 111, 113, 115has at its inner end portion 93 a closed-bottom channel99 with saddle-like webs 101 extending between the chan-nel sides 92, to open through to its corner core 120 andsupport horizontal reinforcing rods b. Consistentlyformed bond beam blocks 70 are provided, whose tongues 75may engage any of the grooved 112, 114, 116 corner end110 faces 111, 113, 115 at wall corners and intersections.Breakout provisions 121 in the corner core 120 inward ofthese faces 111, 113, 115 make it simple, at any inter-section, to lead horizontal reinforcing rods b to thecored corner 120 end portions 110, through which verticalrodding a and grouting is provided. By utilizing hori-zontal reinforcing rods 133 formed at a right angle toextend through the corner block 90 between its two adja-cent blocks 70, the two perpendicular walls may be moresecurely tied together, to prevent vertical cracking.This furnishes to the easily-constructed mortarless wallblock system a sturdy, reinforced concrete grid.Where desired, blocks made of other material,for example, redwood may be utilized; also in miniature,the invention may be incorporated in sets of toy blocks,which have exceptional educational value.
