Process for the catalytic oxidation of a paraffinic hydrocarbon to an alcohol and either an aldehyde or a ketone

An alcohol and either an aldehyde or a ketone are produced by oxidising in a liquid medium a paraffinic hydrocarbon in the presence of a soluble iron catalyst, molecular oxygen, an acid and a reducing agent which is a zerovalent metal such as iron in powder form.
