The invention relates to a dry storage container of steel for the intermediate storage of spent nuclear fuel elements. On the outer surface and/or inner surface, the dry storage container has a coating of ceramic (3,6). The dry storage container is sealed by a lid (1) that can be welded in. Because of the welding that has to be carried out, the dry storage container cannot be coated in the region of the later weld zone. In order to achieve a ceramic coating which nevertheless covers the entire cavity (8) of the container body, the closing lid (1) is constructed in a U-shaped fashion seen in cross- section, the edge of the lid being perpendicular to the closing lid (1) and forming a weld lip (4). The closing lid (1) is arranged in the opening of the container body (2) of the dry storage container, the end of the edge of the lid terminating with the open end of the container body. IMAGE
