An improved Sn-antimonate catalyst is claimed for the use in an ammoxidation process in which propylene or isobutylene together with O2 and NH3 in the vapour phase are contacted with the catalyst at elevated temp. to yield the corresp. unsatd. nitrile. The catalyst is a Sn-antimonate oxide complex free of Ti and Fe and of formula AaDbTedSneSbfox. A is one or more from Cu, V, w. or Mo. D is opt. one or more from Bi, Ge, Ce, La, Cr, Mn, Mg, Ca, Co, Ni, Nb, Ta, Ag, Zn, Cd, K, Cs, U, B, P and Eu. a is 0.5-5, b is 0-10, d is 0.1-2, e is 0.1-10, f is greater than 1+b+d+e. x is a no. sufficient to satisfy the valance requirements of the other elements to satisfy the valance reqyirements of the other elemets present. Sn:Sb is 1:5-1:1.1. pref. b is at least 0.001 and D is from Bi, Ge, Ce, La, Cr, Mn, Mg, Co, Ni, Nb, Zn, K and Cs.
